Roma People, Bulgaria
This work documents members of the Roma community in Bulgaria. I was originally made aware of the plight of two Roma communities in Bulgaria.
The photographs were made through direct engagement and time spent with individuals and families, avoiding the visual shorthand and stereotypes that often surround Roma representation in the media.
The intention was not to frame the community as marginal or exotic, but to photograph people within their own environments with the same attentiveness and respect afforded to any other subject.
The work prioritises presence over narrative and avoids commentary. It exists as an invitation to look more carefully and to recognise complexity where simplification is common.
