Encounters
These photographs are not part of a single narrative.
They were made over many years, in different places, often briefly. Some were commissioned, many were not. Each began as an encounter rather than a concept.
The work is concerned with presence rather than performance. I am drawn to moments where a person appears fully themselves, however fleeting that moment may be, without instruction or embellishment.
Some images are quiet, others confrontational. Some are made slowly, others instinctively. They exist independently, but together they form a wider observation of character, resilience, vulnerability, and dignity.
These photographs are not intended to explain their subjects.
They are moments of meeting.
